The episode reveals more about Andrea’s private life and past while Billie discovers that the intimidating scientist others describe is very different around her
Andrea starts opening up
Episode 2 opens with Andrea spending time with Katie, the woman she has been casually seeing. Katie realises how little she actually knows about Andrea, who finally reveals that she is a scientist and botanist.
At work, Billie arrives early with coffee and has already organised Andrea’s research data before a busy day of meetings. Their easy exchange shows a noticeably warmer side of Andrea than the one her colleagues have come to expect.
Billie learns about Andrea’s past
Dr Burroughs warns Billie that Andrea has a reputation for being difficult, serious and demanding. Billie strongly disagrees, describing Andrea as welcoming, patient and “amazing”.
Billie also learns that Andrea’s father, Lewis, was a botanist who died from cancer when Andrea was around 18 or 19. It adds important context to Andrea’s background and her life in scientific research.
Andrea rushes to help Billie
Later, Billie accidentally spills a chemical on her hand. Andrea reacts immediately, taking control of the situation and helping Billie wash it off at the sink.
Creator Charlize Remi has described this as the first time viewers really see Andrea move away from her usual stoicism. As Andrea washes Billie’s hand, the moment becomes unexpectedly tender before Andrea realises how close they have become and quickly pulls back.
