Spider-Man Brand New Day has made box office history as Tom Holland’s Marvel blockbuster breaks a huge all-time record.
Tom Holland has taken Spider-Man into the history books after Spider-Man: Brand New Day officially became the highest-grossing film ever at the North American box office.
The Marvel blockbuster has now passed Star Wars: The Force Awakens, ending a record that had stood for more than a decade and giving Holland’s latest outing as Peter Parker another enormous milestone.
The film has reached around $936.7 million at the domestic box office after 47 days in cinemas, pushing it beyond the record previously held by The Force Awakens. Worldwide, Brand New Day has now taken approximately $2.4 billion.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man breaks a huge record
The achievement puts Brand New Day ahead of some of the biggest films ever released in North America and underlines just how successful Spider-Man remains nearly 25 years after the character’s first major live-action cinema blockbuster.
Holland returned as Peter Parker for the new film alongside Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, following the enormous success of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The latest adventure also introduced another collection of major Marvel characters, with the film becoming one of the biggest releases in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Its latest achievement is particularly significant because Star Wars: The Force Awakens had held the North American record since its release in 2015.
Globally, Brand New Day now sits at around $2.4 billion, placing it among the very highest-grossing films ever released worldwide.
