Before Samantha leaves for dinner, Catherine is questioned about an earlier remark suggesting she knows what it is like to kiss a woman. Initially reluctant to discuss the subject, she eventually admits that she fell in love with a woman in Afghanistan when she was 28.
Catherine explains that returning home felt like leaving another life behind. When asked whether she is a lesbian, she admits she does not know, explaining that what matters is that she loved the woman. Samantha hopes Catherine might share more about the relationship someday, but her sister is not ready to revisit those memories.
Samantha and Sarah face an awkward moment at dinner
