Home and Away Zane given huge test as Alf leaves him alone with Marilyn
Home and Away’s Zane faces a major test of trust when Alf finally leaves Summer Bay, but a final warning proves his doubts have not completely disappeared.
Zane faces perhaps his biggest test of trust yet in Home and Away when Alf finally leaves Summer Bay for Martha’s birthday. After spending weeks questioning whether Zane can be trusted around Marilyn, Alf has to decide whether he is genuinely prepared to step back
Alf originally considered missing the trip altogether because he did not want Marilyn left in the house with Zane. Leah, Justin and Marilyn eventually challenged him over the decision, pointing out that Zane has been working hard to prove himself.
Before leaving, Alf still takes precautions. He asks Mali to keep an eye on Marilyn while he is away, showing that his concerns have not disappeared simply because he has agreed to travel.
Alf then speaks directly to Zane and asks him to promise that he will continue doing the right thing. Zane agrees without hesitation, understanding that Alf’s trust remains fragile and that one mistake could destroy the progress they have made.
The exchange becomes more significant because Zane is already struggling internally. Rather than enjoying the fact that people are beginning to believe in him, he questions whether he deserves their confidence at all.
Marilyn later discovers just how heavily the responsibility is weighing on him. Zane admits he cannot stop thinking about his victim and the uncomfortable contrast between her suffering and the freedom he is now beginning to enjoy.
That makes Alf’s departure more than a practical storyline about leaving the house. For Zane, it becomes proof that someone who once barely trusted him is finally willing to give him responsibility, even if that trust comes with conditions.
The challenge now is what Zane does with it. He wants to prove Alf right, but his growing guilt suggests his biggest battle may no longer be convincing other people that he has changed.
Zane is increasingly trying to convince himself that rebuilding a life can coexist with taking responsibility for the one he damaged before.
