Relationships move in dramatically different directions in Home and Away from 21–25 September 2026, with David and Amelia finally embracing their attraction while Tane faces the painful reality of being separated from Archie. Friendship also comes under pressure as Remi chooses to stand firmly beside Sonny.
David begins the week repairing things with Lacey after the row over removing his wedding ring. Jo helps her sister admit that she misses their mother but also understands that David should not spend the rest of his life alone.
That breakthrough gives David the confidence to keep moving forward with Amelia. She quietly enters her motel address into his phone, David later arrives at her door, and the pair spend the night together before continuing their romance with another kiss near the beach.
Lacey still struggles with the reality of her dad being with someone new, especially when she discovers he stayed away overnight. Even so, she eventually tells David that she genuinely wants things with Amelia to work out, giving him the reassurance he has been waiting for.
Tane’s family situation becomes considerably more painful. Harper has now secured a rental around half a day from Summer Bay and he agrees to help with the move, despite knowing it will make seeing Archie far more difficult.
His anger remains directed towards Sonny rather than Harper. Tane refuses Sonny’s apology and tells him that unless he can somehow bring Archie back, their relationship is effectively finished.
That conflict also affects Remi. He asks Tane to show Sonny some compassion but eventually decides his friend needs more support than anyone else, leading him to move out of Tane’s home and become Sonny’s flatmate.
Sonny worries the decision could destroy Remi’s friendship with Tane, but Remi refuses to abandon him. The support helps Sonny focus on finding work and rebuilding a life that no longer revolves around hiding from everyone he has hurt.
Week 39 therefore brings one relationship closer while others are stretched by distance, grief and loyalty. David and Amelia finally get the freedom to explore something new, while Tane and Remi discover how difficult it can be when supporting one person feels like betraying another.
