Home and Away Lacey questions her hostility to Amelia after Mali reality check

Lacey’s struggle with David and Amelia’s growing romance takes a more thoughtful turn in Home and Away when Mali forces her to consider whether she is being unfair. After repeatedly reacting badly to the relationship, Lacey finally hears a perspective that makes her question what she really wants for her dad.

The tension begins when Lacey sees David and Amelia together after a coffee date. Mali casually points out that David appears attracted to Amelia, only for Lacey to snap back and insist something about her dad’s behaviour feels strange

Jo quickly challenges that interpretation and tells Lacey the change she is seeing may simply be happiness. Mali agrees, leaving Lacey confronted with the possibility that David is not acting strangely at all and is instead beginning to enjoy life again.

Later, Lacey and Mali talk privately at the Surf Shop. Mali asks her to keep her cool when David and Amelia appear together again, but Lacey remains uncomfortable with how quickly their relationship seems to be progressing.

She then asks Mali how he handled his own mother dating after his father died. The answer gives Lacey something she clearly was not expecting.

Mali explains that his mother never dated again and admits he actually thinks that is a shame. In his view, she deserves to have someone special in her life rather than remaining alone simply because she once lost the person she loved.

For the first time, she is forced to separate her own grief from what might genuinely make David happy. Protecting him from being hurt again is understandable, but preventing him from moving on could also mean denying him the chance to find happiness.

Jo has already been telling Lacey to give Amelia a fair chance, and Mali’s honesty adds another voice she trusts to that argument. Lacey is not suddenly comfortable with the romance, but she is beginning to question whether fighting it is really about David or about her own fear of change.
