Home and Away Lacey calls out David over Amelia rejection
Home and Away’s Lacey calls David out over the way he rejected Amelia and tells him he cannot expect their friendship to simply return to normal.
Lacey gives David a much-needed reality check in Home and Away after witnessing another awkward encounter between him and Amelia. While David insists everything between them is completely fine, Lacey quickly points out that his handling of Amelia’s feelings was always likely to leave some tension behind.
David runs into Amelia at the Surf Club while meeting Lacey for lunch, and the uncomfortable atmosphere between them immediately catches her attention. Once Amelia has gone, Lacey questions her dad about what she has just witnessed and refuses to accept his insistence that there is no awkwardness.
David explains that Amelia previously admitted she was attracted to him, while he told her he was not ready for anything. As far as David is concerned, they are now simply friends and there is no reason for things between them to feel strange.
Lacey sees the situation very differently and tells David that he effectively friend-zoned Amelia. She points out that this was still a rejection, meaning he cannot realistically expect Amelia to act as though nothing happened between them.
She also tells David that if he genuinely wants to remain friends with Amelia, he needs to make some effort himself. Rather than leaving Amelia to deal with the aftermath alone, Lacey encourages him to follow up and show that his offer of friendship actually means something.
David appears to take the advice on board when a police callout later takes him to the hospital. He uses the opportunity to tell Amelia that he should have made more effort to arrange coffee because he genuinely does want them to stay friends.
Unfortunately, his attempt to repair things only creates another awkward moment. Amelia asks him to stop discussing their personal lives at work, making it clear that the situation is nowhere near as simple as David initially believed.
Lacey may not be convinced that David has romantic feelings for Amelia, but she clearly understands why Amelia could still be hurt by what happened. Her intervention forces David to recognise that rejecting someone and then declaring everything normal does not automatically make it so.
With Amelia now preparing to leave Summer Bay, Lacey’s advice could prove more important than David realises. If he genuinely wants Amelia in his life, he may have far less time than he expected to show her.
