Home and Away’s David finally acts on his feelings for Amelia as a carefully planned barbecue turns into an unexpected first date in Summer Bay.
David finally stops hiding behind mixed signals in Home and Away as a supposedly innocent family barbecue becomes the opportunity he needs to show Amelia that he genuinely wants something more. After weeks of awkwardness and missed chances, the biggest surprise is that David is the one who quietly engineers the whole thing.
Having discovered Amelia is still in Summer Bay, David tells Jo and Lacey they are hosting a mandatory barbecue. His sudden enthusiasm immediately raises suspicions, especially when he personally calls Amelia and invites her to lunch.
Justin arrives with a pavlova and quickly realises exactly what David is trying to do. Jo and Lacey are equally stunned when Amelia appears, particularly because they have only just discovered she has extended her stay.
The biggest obstacle turns out to be David himself. Despite organising the entire barbecue as an excuse to spend time with Amelia, he seems more comfortable concentrating on the food than actually saying what he wants.
Justin attempts to push him in the right direction before eventually giving up and leaving. Jo and Lacey soon follow, each finding an excuse to disappear until David and Amelia are finally left alone.
Amelia immediately understands the setup, but she is no longer interested in wasting time on another round of uncertainty. She makes clear that if David is still unsure about what he wants, she has no intention of waiting around for him to work it out.
This time, David gives her the answer she has been waiting for. He reassures Amelia that moving things forward is something they both want, finally putting some clarity behind a connection that has been repeatedly stalled by his hesitation.
The moment matters because David has spent so long insisting friendship was enough that he nearly lost the opportunity entirely. Amelia staying gave him another chance, but the barbecue shows he finally understands that another vague conversation would not be enough.
Their relationship is still at the beginning, but David has finally made a choice instead of finding another reason to delay. After almost missing his chance with Amelia altogether, Summer Bay could finally have a new romance properly getting started.
