Home and Away Dana ends things with Sonny after devastating steroid relapse
Home and Away’s Dana ends her relationship with Sonny after another steroid betrayal leaves her unable to trust him, despite his desperate pleas.
Dana finally reaches breaking point in Home and Away after discovering Sonny has returned to steroids despite promising her the drugs were behind him. His relapse leaves their already fragile relationship shattered, and this time Dana refuses to accept another explanation.
Sonny desperately follows Dana and tries to explain what happened, but she has heard too many promises already. After discovering the steroids in his bag, Dana feels betrayed all over again and makes clear she cannot keep rebuilding trust only to have it destroyed.
Things become even more painful when Dana later returns to collect some of her belongings. She tells Sonny she will be staying at Tane’s place and does not want him contacting her, leaving no doubt that she considers their relationship finished.
Sonny begs her not to leave as Tane helps load her things into the car. Dana remains firm and tells Tane to drive, refusing to let Sonny’s heartbreak pull her back into a situation she no longer feels she can trust.
For Sonny, the loss hits hard because Dana was the person he was trying to build his future around. He admits to Remi that he has lost her, while the shame of his relapse only deepens as he realises how much damage one decision has caused.
Dana’s choice is about more than the steroids themselves. She has already discovered lies about money, drugs and Sonny’s intention to hide the truth from her, meaning the latest relapse confirms how unstable their relationship has become.
There is no satisfaction in walking away because Dana clearly still cares about him. However, love is no longer enough when every promise immediately raises the question of whether she can believe it.
Sonny may still have a chance to recover, but Dana makes clear that recovery cannot depend on her staying. If he wants to rebuild his life, he will have to prove he can do it even after losing the person he most wanted beside him.
