Jordan Firstman Reveals He Helped His Sister and Her Wife Have a Baby While Filming Club Kid

Jordan Firstman has revealed that he donated sperm to help his sister and her wife have a baby, with the child arriving on the final day of production for his new film Club Kid, a comedy exploring an unexpected fatherhood journey.

The actor, writer and director discussed the personal experience ahead of the film's American cinema release on Friday 6 November 2026, explaining that his sister approached him after he had already written the first draft of the screenplay.

The coincidence was particularly striking because Club Kid follows a gay New York nightlife promoter whose life is unexpectedly disrupted when he discovers he has a ten-year-old son, forcing him to confront responsibilities he has spent years avoiding.

Firstman Helped His Sister and Her Wife Start a Family

Firstman explained that his sister asked whether he would consider becoming a sperm donor so that she and her wife could have a child together.

He agreed to help, describing the decision as straightforward, although the baby's arrival during the final stages of filming proved to be an emotional experience.

The child was born on the last day of production, bringing an unexpected personal connection to a film centred on family relationships and the responsibilities associated with parenthood.

However, Firstman has been clear that his own circumstances are different from those of the character he plays, explaining that he considers himself the baby's uncle rather than taking on the role of a parent.

He remains involved as a family member, keeping in touch through video calls and sending gifts, while his sister and her wife are raising their child.

The filmmaker also confirmed that the screenplay had been written before his sister approached him, meaning the film's storyline was not inspired by his decision to become a donor.

What Is Club Kid About?

Club Kid follows Peter, played by Firstman, a New York party promoter whose life has revolved around the city's nightlife scene for more than a decade.

His days are dominated by recovering from late nights while his evenings are spent organising parties, drinking and taking drugs, with little indication that he is interested in establishing a more conventional future.

That lifestyle is disrupted when ten-year-old Arlo, played by Reggie Absolom, arrives unexpectedly following the death of his mother.

Peter discovers that Arlo is his son from a sexual encounter years earlier, leaving him responsible for a child he had no idea existed.

Their developing relationship forces Peter to reconsider the choices he has made and whether he can provide the stability Arlo needs without abandoning his own identity.

The film combines comedy with a more personal examination of queer adulthood, unexpected family relationships and the difficulties of growing older within a world built around youth and nightlife.

Cara Delevingne Joins a Cast Connected to Queer Nightlife

Firstman makes his feature directorial debut with the film, which he also wrote and stars in, following earlier work in television, short films and online comedy.

Cara Delevingne plays Sophie, Peter's friend and business partner, while Diego Calva, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Colleen Camp and Reggie Absolom also appear.

The production includes performers and personalities connected to New York's queer nightlife community, with Firstman choosing to involve people familiar with the club scene rather than relying exclusively on established actors.

He has explained that their involvement helped bring authenticity to the dialogue, atmosphere and social relationships depicted on screen.

The film was shot on 35mm and premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, with distributor A24 subsequently acquiring the project following considerable international interest.

When Is Club Kid Released in the UK?

Club Kid opens in American cinemas on Friday 6 November 2026, following festival screenings and its international premiere earlier in the year.

A Dutch theatrical release is also scheduled for Thursday 12 November, although a confirmed general UK cinema release date has not yet been announced.
