Hollyoaks fuels Ste Hay mystery as Mercedes and Leela missing posters appear
Hollyoaks has added a clever twist to the mystery surrounding Ste Hay, as missing posters for Mercedes and Leela also appear in Steph Waring’s TikTok.
Hollyoaks deserves full credit for the way it has handled an unexpected recent reveal involving Ste Hay, turning what appeared to be a major future storyline clue into something much harder to unravel.
A missing poster for Ste was spotted on the Hollyoaks set in footage shared online, stating that he had disappeared and was last seen at Evingham Shopping Centre in Leicestershire. Hollyoaks later confirmed the incident had been reported to police, but anyone thinking the poster gave away exactly what happens to Ste might want to reconsider.
Steph Waring adds another twist
Following her return as Cindy, Steph Waring this week posted a TikTok thanking viewers for the warm reaction to her comeback. Eagle eyed viewers spotted the same Ste missing poster in the background, but this time similar “Missing” posters for Mercedes and Leela were also visible.
Whether the additional posters are genuine clues, red herrings or Hollyoaks simply having some fun with the attention surrounding the original reveal, it is a clever move that has immediately created uncertainty over what is actually coming.
There could be another connection too. Mercedes is set to head away for a spa break with Leela and Ste, while Gemma makes a call after learning details of their trip.
There is currently no confirmation that the three characters disappear or that the posters are connected to those events. However, seeing missing posters for all three when we already know they will be together certainly gives viewers something to think about.
Rather than dwelling on an unexpected reveal, Hollyoaks appears to be having some fun with it. If the intention was to leave viewers wondering which clues are genuine and which are there to throw people off the scent, it has worked.
Full kudos to Hollyoaks. What initially looked like a straightforward clue about Ste has suddenly become a potential tongue in cheek mystery involving three characters, and some fans are no longer quite sure what to believe.
