Gisele Shaw signs NWA contract after championship success

Gisele Shaw has signed with the National Wrestling Alliance following a run in its women’s division that included winning the World Women’s Television Championship. The Filipina-Canadian wrestler, who publicly came out as transgender in 2022, brings experience from British and North American wrestling to the deal.

NWA president Billy Corgan announced the signing during the company’s Powerrr programme. The announcement appeared online on 12 September, formalising a relationship that had already seen Shaw become a familiar presence on its shows.

Known in the ring as The Quintessential Diva, Shaw previously competed for TNA Wrestling, which operated as IMPACT Wrestling during much of her time there. She joined its women’s division in 2022 and left the company in 2024.

British wrestling fans may recognise her from an earlier chapter of her career. She held championships with PROGRESS, Revolution Pro Wrestling and Pro-Wrestling: EVE, building her experience across several UK promotions before her more recent television appearances.

Her arrival in the NWA did not begin with the contract announcement. She had already challenged for championship gold and developed a place within the company’s women’s division before the signing became public.

That run included becoming World Women’s Television Champion. The title is separate from the NWA World Women’s Championship, so the distinction matters when looking back at her achievements with the promotion.

Shaw no longer holds the Television Championship. The NWA’s recap of its 12 September broadcast records Sirena Veil defeating her for the belt, bringing that reign to an end.

Away from championship matches, Shaw publicly discussed being transgender during Toronto Pride in June 2022. IMPACT supported her announcement, emphasising both its commitment to inclusion and the wrestling ability that had earned her a place on its roster.

The NWA deal follows those years of experience rather than marking her introduction to professional wrestling. Her career already includes championship success in different companies and appearances before audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.

The contract announcement confirms another step in that career, but its duration has not been established. Nor have the full conditions governing appearances for other companies, so the signing alone does not confirm her next opponent or championship opportunity.
