Eurovision 2027 Mascot: Meet the Unusual Contenders
From a giant seagull and a friendly capybara to a colourful lion, meet the unusual mascot ideas being proposed for Eurovision 2027 in Bulgaria.
A giant seagull, a friendly capybara, a pink flamingo and a colourful lion are among the unusual suggestions for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 mascot, as excitement builds ahead of the competition in Burgas, Bulgaria.
The seaside city will host Eurovision for the first time following Bulgaria's victory in 2026, with the Grand Final taking place at Arena Burgas on Saturday 15 May 2027.
Although no official mascot has been selected, local organisations, artists and Eurovision enthusiasts have been sharing their own ideas, with several designs attracting considerable attention online.
What mascots have been proposed?
One of the earliest suggestions came from the Burgas State Puppet Theatre, which proposed Euroglarus, a giant seagull puppet already featured in its street production Burgas Gulls. The character comes from a performance created by theatre director Petar Todorov and celebrates the seaside birds that have become synonymous with the city.
Burgas Zoo introduced Kapi the capybara, describing the friendly animal as a symbol of togetherness and acceptance. Zoo manager Krastyo Dabov has spoken about the animal's popularity, while the proposal highlights the capybara's calm and sociable nature.
Another colourful contender is FLAMI, a pink flamingo proposed by the Instagram fan group eurovision.burgas. The design takes inspiration from the flamingos found around the Burgas lakes, connecting the competition with the area's wildlife.
More recently, local artist Damyan Staykov presented Leo the Lion, a smiling character with a distinctive blue mane inspired by Bulgaria's national symbolism and the seaside setting. The artist has promoted the design through illustrations and social media, encouraging people to embrace their individuality.
Other suggestions include a pelican, a seahorse and a lion with a fish's tail inspired by the Burgas coat of arms. Municipal councillor Georgi Drakaliev has supported the idea of using the city's existing lion symbol, while the pelican and seahorse have emerged through public discussions.
When will the Eurovision 2027 mascot be chosen?
Despite the growing number of suggestions, none has been officially adopted by Eurovision organisers.
Bulgarian broadcaster BNT previously indicated that a creative competition could be held, although no official selection date or public voting process has been confirmed.
There is also no requirement for Eurovision to have a mascot, meaning organisers could ultimately decide not to introduce one.
For now, the imaginative proposals offer an early glimpse of how Burgas hopes to bring its coastal character, wildlife and local creativity to one of the world's biggest music events.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2027 takes place in Burgas, Bulgaria, with semi-finals on 11 and 13 May and the Grand Final on 15 May.
