Vinny Dingle’s relationship with Lewis Barton hits a devastating new crisis in upcoming Emmerdale scenes when a surprise proposal goes badly wrong.
Lewis is increasingly certain that Vinny is the man he wants to marry and initially plans to gently steer the conversation towards their future together.
However, those plans quickly change. Unable to wait any longer, Lewis takes the plunge and gets down on one knee in front of Vinny.
It should be an unforgettable romantic moment, but Vinny’s reaction is nothing like Lewis expected. Rather than immediately accepting, Vinny freezes. His hesitation leaves Lewis hurt and humiliated, and he eventually walks away before Vinny can give him the answer he desperately wanted.
What Lewis does not realise is that Vinny’s reaction is being driven by something far darker than doubts about their relationship.
Vinny is carrying enormous guilt over the secret surrounding Dawn and Jimmy’s deaths. With such a huge truth hanging over him, he does not believe he can simply agree to marry Lewis and pretend everything is fine.
That leaves the couple at a devastating crossroads. Lewis believes Vinny has rejected him, while Vinny knows the real reason for his silence could cause considerably more damage if it ever comes out.
