EastEnders Kellie Bright Quits After 13 Years as Linda Carter

EastEnders is preparing to say goodbye to one of its biggest stars after Kellie Bright confirmed she is leaving the BBC soap following 13 years as Linda Carter.

Kellie has revealed that she actually made the difficult decision to leave more than a year ago, but agreed to extend her time in Walford after discussions with EastEnders bosses about a major storyline they had planned for Linda.

It means viewers still have plenty more Linda to come before her eventual departure, with EastEnders making it clear that a character with such a huge history in Albert Square will not simply disappear quietly.

Kellie joined EastEnders in 2013 as part of the Carter family alongside Danny Dyer as Mick. Linda quickly became one of the soap’s most recognisable characters, with the Carters taking control of The Queen Vic and becoming central to Walford life.

Confirming her departure, Kellie said EastEnders had been her home for 13 years and that she had “absolutely loved” being part of the programme. However, she explained that she now feels the time is right to say goodbye and move on to a new chapter.

Executive producer Ben Wadey described Kellie as having been at the heart of EastEnders for the past 13 years and confirmed that plans for Linda were already in place when Kellie revealed she wanted to leave. He also made clear that there remains “a long way to go” before viewers actually have to say goodbye.

Crucially, Linda is already known to be part of EastEnders’ future. The character appeared in the flashforward to New Year’s Day 2027, meaning Kellie’s final storyline stretches towards one of the programme’s biggest upcoming events.

Exactly how Linda eventually leaves Walford has not been revealed, and EastEnders is understandably keeping the details of her final storyline under wraps. However, the BBC’s announcement promises that Linda will not be leaving quietly, setting up considerable intrigue around what could ultimately take her away from Albert Square.
