EastEnders: Could Denise be the one to uncover Gray's latest prison plot?

Gray Atkins may believe he has found the perfect way to reach Jordan, but there is one person who could unknowingly bring his latest scheme crashing down before it has the chance to succeed.

While much of the focus has understandably fallen on Chelsea, Denise is also playing an important role in the storyline. As Chelsea divides her time between supporting Denise and caring for Jordan, she places her faith in Sheila to help look after her son. It is a decision that allows Gray's plan to move forward without raising immediate suspicion.

However, Denise has always been fiercely protective of her family, and it would not take much for her to notice that something is not quite right.

Although Denise is currently dealing with her own difficulties, she knows Chelsea better than almost anyone. A subtle change in Chelsea's behaviour or an innocent comment from Jordan could easily prompt her to begin asking questions that nobody else has considered.

Children often reveal far more than they realise through casual conversation. If Jordan were to mention one of his outings with Sheila or accidentally repeat something he had been asked to keep secret, Denise could quickly realise there is far more happening behind the scenes than anyone first believed.

That possibility becomes even more significant because Denise has already seen the devastating impact Gray had on Chelsea's life. She understands exactly how manipulative he can be and would have little hesitation in stepping in if she suspected his influence had returned.

Unlike Chelsea, Denise has never developed the same level of trust in Sheila. That distance could allow her to view the situation more objectively, spotting warning signs that Chelsea understandably misses because she believes Sheila only wants to spend time with her great grandson.

If Denise were to challenge Sheila directly, the pressure could cause the older woman to make a mistake. One slip of the tongue or an inconsistent explanation might be enough to expose the truth before Gray has the opportunity to move his plan any further.

There is also the possibility that Denise becomes suspicious after noticing changes in Chelsea herself. As the storyline progresses, Chelsea begins to question whether something feels wrong, and Denise could encourage her to trust those instincts rather than dismiss them.

Working together, mother and daughter may prove far more difficult for Gray and Sheila to deceive than either of them anticipated. Once questions begin to be asked, the carefully constructed web of lies could quickly begin to unravel.

Nothing has been confirmed about exactly who uncovers the truth, but Denise certainly has the experience, determination and protective instincts to play a major part in bringing Gray's latest scheme to an end.

Whether she becomes the first person to connect the dots or simply helps Chelsea realise what has been happening, Denise could prove to be the unexpected obstacle that finally prevents Gray from getting what he wants.
