EastEnders’ Amy Refuses To Trust Joel Again
Amy makes her feelings clear as Joel attempts to rebuild his life in Walford following his EastEnders return
Joel may be trying to rebuild his life in Walford, but Amy is making it clear that she is not ready to forget the past.
Since Joel’s return, reactions have been mixed. Some people are prepared to hear him out and see whether he has changed, while others remain deeply sceptical. Amy firmly falls into the second camp.
For her, trust is something that has to be earned, and Joel has a long way to go before that happens.
The storyline highlights one of the biggest challenges facing Joel as he attempts to settle back into life in Albert Square. Returning is one thing. Convincing people that he deserves another chance is something else entirely.
Amy’s reaction is understandable given everything that has happened previously. While Joel may want to move forward, not everybody affected by the past is ready to do the same.
That creates an awkward situation as their paths continue to cross.
The story also raises an interesting question about forgiveness. Even when somebody wants to change, how long should it take before others are expected to trust them again?
Amy clearly believes that time alone is not enough.
As Joel continues trying to reconnect with people around him, her refusal to simply welcome him back serves as a reminder that actions have consequences.
Whether her opinion changes remains to be seen, but for now Amy is standing firm.
Joel might be back in Walford, but that does not mean old wounds have healed.
