Could Max’s arrest be linked to Zoe’s death in EastEnders?

EastEnders has left viewers questioning how Max Branning’s connection to Zoe’s death could feed into the show’s dramatic New Year’s Day flash-forward.

The flash-forward revealed that Max would be arrested on suspicion of organising a murder, but the identity of the intended victim and the circumstances surrounding the arrest remain part of the mystery.

With Kat determined to find answers about Zoe’s final hours, speculation is growing about whether the two storylines could eventually collide.

Kat believes someone allowed Zoe to die without helping her, and her grief has increasingly turned towards the person she holds responsible. However, viewers know that what Kat believes happened and what actually happened may not be the same thing.

One viewer questioned the storyline’s logic, asking: “So why is Kat convinced that someone was there watching her take her last breaths?”

Another fan wrote: “If Kat has anything to do with the gunman on NYD…….”

The possibility has clearly crossed viewers’ minds, although there is no confirmation that Kat will be involved in the flash-forward shooting.

Max’s position is also complicated by the fact that the flash-forward does not establish that his arrest is connected to Zoe. The show could be building towards a link between the stories, or deliberately encouraging viewers to draw conclusions before the truth emerges.

For now, Max’s arrest and Kat’s determination to uncover what happened to Zoe remain separate pieces of a larger puzzle.
