Coronation Street's Idris supports Sam as he struggles after schizophrenia diagnosis

Sam finds an unexpected source of support when he meets Idris and opens up about the fears he has been carrying since his schizophrenia diagnosis.

After returning home from hospital, Sam struggles to adjust back to normal life. While Leanne is keen for him to meet her new boyfriend Idris, the teenager is still dealing with worries about how others see him.

Sam is particularly hurt when David refuses to let him hold baby Harper, leaving him feeling that people now view him differently because of his diagnosis.

When Sam spends time with Idris, he finds someone who understands that life can bring its own challenges. The pair form a bond as Sam admits that he worries people think he is mentally unstable.

Idris offers reassurance and shares his own experiences of teenage anxiety, helping Sam realise that he is not alone in facing difficult emotions.

The conversation gives Sam a much-needed boost, but Idris soon finds himself dealing with serious issues of his own.

Away from supporting Sam, Idris becomes involved in Leanne's ongoing problems with Abi. When Leanne reveals her legal battle over the restaurant, Idris surprises her by offering to buy her share and help resolve the situation.

However, Idris has another challenge ahead when he meets Adam, who refuses to apologise for representing Abi in the court case.

Wanting to protect Leanne, Idris steps in and offers Abi a financial settlement in the hope of bringing the dispute to an end. But when Alya questions whether the offer will be enough, Abi must decide whether to accept the money or continue fighting.

As Idris tries to help the people around him, his friendship with Sam shows a different side to his character. Their conversation provides Sam with comfort at a difficult point in his recovery, while Idris proves he has his own struggles behind the confident exterior.
