Coronation Street’s Ben stunned by Ollie’s Speed Daal career move

Ben receives an unexpected shock in Coronation Street when he discovers that Ollie has started working as a chef at Speed Daal. Ollie has already accepted the position and begun his first shift by the time his father learns about the move.

The new job follows Ollie’s disappointment after a potential opportunity in Brighton failed to work out. Leanne offers him a place in the Speed Daal kitchen, while Alya helps him settle in and shows him how the restaurant operates.

Ollie is enthusiastic about the role because it gives him the chance to broaden his experience as a chef. He has grown tired of heating up hot pots at the family pub and sees Speed Daal as an opportunity to take his career in a new direction.

Ben does not share his son’s excitement when he sees him dressed in chef’s whites at the restaurant. Speed Daal is competition for the Driscoll family business, making Ollie’s decision feel much more personal from Ben’s point of view.

The disagreement places Ollie’s career ambitions against Ben’s concerns about loyalty to the family. Ollie appears focused on gaining experience, but his father may struggle to understand why he chose to work for a rival rather than remain at the pub.

Idris is forced to step in and mediate between them as the tension grows. His involvement shows that the dispute cannot be settled easily, with both Ben and Ollie holding very different views about the new job.

Ollie now faces the challenge of explaining that his move is about developing his skills rather than rejecting his family. Ben must decide whether he can support his son’s ambitions, even when those ambitions have taken him into a competing business.
