Coronation Street Tyrone could finally turn against Ross

Tyrone’s relationship with Ross could be heading towards its biggest setback yet after his father makes insensitive comments which strike painfully close to home.

Tyrone invites Ross and Tracy for a meal as he continues trying to build a relationship with the dad he barely knows. What begins relatively lightly soon takes a very different turn when conversation moves towards Ross’s past and Richie’s experience of domestic abuse.

Ross makes dismissive comments about Richie’s account of being abused by Rachel. For Tyrone, the subject is deeply personal following his own experience of domestic abuse during his relationship with Kirsty. Ross therefore manages to upset his son in a way he may not initially appreciate.

Ross later recognises that he went too far and tells Tracy he wishes he had kept quiet. Following her advice, he attempts to apologise to Tyrone and admits his comments were wrong.

Whether Tyrone can simply move past them is another question. Tyrone has been trying to give Ross an opportunity to become part of his life, but he is also gradually learning more about the man behind the relationship he hoped they could build.

One apology may repair the immediate argument, but Ross’s attitude could fundamentally alter how Tyrone sees him. If more uncomfortable sides of Ross continue emerging, Tyrone may eventually have to decide whether having his father in his life is actually worth the hurt that comes with it.

Coronation Street continues on ITV1 and ITVX. Upcoming episodes will reveal what happens next.
