Coronation Street fans have a new Lucy theory after Christina’s shock Rachel discovery. Could it finally explain the mysterious connection between them?
A new Coronation Street mystery surrounding Lucy could be about to deepen when Christina Boyd discovers exactly who the youngster’s late mother was.
Christina accesses Rachel Parkinson’s records at Shuttleworth’s and realises she was Lucy’s mum. Rather than simply recognising the name, Christina is visibly shaken by the discovery, immediately raising questions about what connection she could have to Rachel.
Viewers are already attempting to piece the mystery together, and one theory suggests there could be a previously unknown family connection. Some fans have questioned whether Rachel could have been Christina’s sister, which would potentially make Christina Lucy’s aunt, although Coronation Street has given no confirmation that the women are related.
Another theory suggests Christina may have known Rachel through very different circumstances. Fans have wondered whether the pair could have crossed paths through the support group Christina attends for her spending addiction, although there is currently nothing establishing that Rachel ever attended the group.
A simpler explanation could be that Christina knew Rachel personally at some point in the past. Whatever the truth, Christina’s reaction suggests the name means considerably more to her than anyone around her currently realises.
The timing is particularly interesting as concern continues to grow around Lucy. Sally becomes troubled after seeing a drawing of an angry woman clutching her head and asks Lucy whether it represents her mum, only for the question to provoke an angry response.
Lucy later apologises and begins keeping a grief journal, suggesting there may be far more behind her recent behaviour than Sally initially understands.
None of the current fan theories about Christina and Rachel have been confirmed, meaning the answer could still be something viewers haven't considered. But Christina suddenly becoming part of Lucy’s story suggests Rachel’s past may be important to understanding what happens next.
