Coronation Street Jodie theory - Does She Want To replace Shona?

Jodie’s behaviour towards Shona is becoming increasingly disturbing in Coronation Street, and upcoming scenes raise a much bigger question about what she actually wants from her sister.

Rather than simply causing trouble, Jodie appears determined to make everyone around Shona believe she is becoming unreliable. She tampers with Harper’s bath water, watches Shona struggle through exhaustion and continues interfering while David grows increasingly concerned about his wife.

Jodie also repeatedly presents herself as the helpful sister. She offers support, expresses apparent concern about Shona and places herself close to David and Harper while secretly creating many of the problems Shona is being blamed for.

Could that reveal her ultimate intention?

There is currently no confirmation that Jodie literally wants to replace Shona, but her actions certainly appear designed to isolate her. If David begins doubting whether Shona can safely care for Harper, Jodie could put herself forward as the person everyone can supposedly rely upon.

The situation becomes even more frightening when Shona falls asleep while Harper is at home and David discovers smoke pouring from the kitchen. Jodie has once again been involved in events leading up to something which makes Shona look dangerously incapable.

Shona believes something is happening to her own mind, when in reality her sister is deliberately manipulating events around her. If Jodie continues successfully turning David against Shona, the question may soon become exactly how much of her sister’s life she intends to take.

Coronation Street continues on ITV1 and ITVX. Upcoming episodes will reveal what happens next.
