Coronation Street Doug makes shock return as Jodie plot deepens

Doug makes an unexpected return to Weatherfield this week, arriving just as the situation surrounding Jodie becomes increasingly concerning.

Jodie has begun using the information she secretly discovered after overhearing a conversation in Sarah’s flat. Bethany quickly finds herself dealing with Jodie’s games, while Jodie also takes the dramatic step of arranging a prison visit with Sarah because she has something she wants to reveal.

Bethany is understandably desperate to get to the bottom of what Jodie is doing. Before she gets the chance, however, Doug suddenly appears and interrupts proceedings.

His return is particularly significant given his connection to both Shona and Jodie. Doug is Shona’s father, but his arrival also brings him face to face with behaviour from Jodie that will become increasingly difficult for him to ignore.

For Shona, Doug’s return is also completely unexpected. Their relationship has clearly been troubled, meaning his sudden appearance is unlikely to be something she can simply brush aside.

Doug may initially have his own reasons for coming back, but he is walking into a situation already filled with secrets and growing tension. Jodie has been crossing boundaries and manipulating situations around her, while Bethany is beginning to realise just how much she knows.

By Friday, Doug himself will witness something that leaves him disturbed by Jodie’s behaviour, making his timing particularly significant.

His arrival therefore looks set to become about far more than simply reconnecting with his daughter. Doug has returned at exactly the moment Jodie is becoming harder to ignore.
