Coronation Street Debbie gets touching 80s surprise in emotional scenes
Coronation Street’s Debbie enjoys a touching 80s surprise as Glenda finds a thoughtful way to help her shine amid her dementia storyline.
Debbie Webster is set to enjoy a special moment in upcoming Coronation Street scenes as Glenda Shuttleworth finds a thoughtful way to help her shine.
With Debbie’s dementia continuing to affect her memory, Glenda realises that events from decades earlier can still feel particularly vivid. She decides to use that knowledge during an 80s-themed quiz, giving Debbie the chance to draw on memories from a period she can recall much more clearly.
The result provides Debbie with a welcome opportunity to enjoy herself rather than feeling defined by the difficulties her condition increasingly creates.

Glenda’s gesture is particularly touching because she isn't treating Debbie as incapable. Instead, she quietly creates an environment where her friend can feel confident, included and able to take part alongside everyone else.
For Debbie, the quiz offers a glimpse of the person she has always been. Her knowledge and memories remain there even as more recent information can sometimes become difficult for her to hold on to.
The happier scenes also provide an important contrast with what Debbie faces elsewhere. She later finds Eva Price unconscious at the bottom of the Rovers cellar steps and immediately attempts to get help, only for confusion to interrupt what she is trying to do.

That frightening situation demonstrates how unpredictable Debbie’s dementia has become, while the quiz shows that her story is about much more than the moments when her memory fails her.
Glenda’s decision may appear relatively small, but it gives Debbie something increasingly valuable as her condition progresses. For a while, she can simply enjoy being surrounded by people who care about her and take centre stage for all the right reasons.
