Coronation Street Debbie desperately tries to save Eva before heartbreaking confusion

Debbie Webster is set to face an upsetting ordeal when she discovers Eva Price unconscious at the bottom of the Rovers cellar steps.

Eva has gone downstairs after hearing a mysterious noise in the supposedly empty pub, but Debbie later arrives and is horrified to find her lying motionless. Debbie immediately realises something is seriously wrong and knows Eva needs urgent help.

What follows puts Debbie’s dementia at the centre of the story in particularly emotional circumstances. Debbie sets out to get help for Eva, showing that she fully understands the seriousness of what she has discovered. However, before she can complete what she intended to do, confusion takes over and she loses track of the emergency she has just witnessed.

It leaves Debbie in an awful position through no choice of her own. She has seen Eva in danger and tried to respond, but her dementia prevents her from holding on to the information long enough to make sure help reaches her.

The scenes could prove particularly difficult for those closest to Debbie as her condition continues to affect everyday life in increasingly unpredictable ways. Until now, many of her struggles have involved moments of confusion and memory loss, but Eva’s emergency suddenly places far greater consequences on something Debbie cannot control.

There is also a separate mystery surrounding Eva herself. Exactly how she ended up unconscious at the bottom of the cellar steps remains unclear after she went downstairs to investigate the unexplained noise.

For Debbie, however, the story is less about solving what happened to Eva and more about what happens when an emergency collides with her dementia. Her instinct is to help, making her subsequent confusion all the more heartbreaking.

As questions continue over Eva’s fall, Debbie could be left facing an emotional aftermath of her own once she realises what happened and remembers the woman she desperately wanted to help.
