Coronation Street Carl gets new job as Ronnie finally draws the line
Coronation Street’s Carl lands a new job at Street Cars as Ronnie draws the line and tells him it is finally time to stand on his own two feet.
Carl Webster faces pressure to start standing on his own two feet in upcoming Coronation Street scenes as Ronnie Bailey makes it clear that his current living arrangement cannot continue forever.
Carl has become increasingly reliant on those around him, but a new opportunity opens up when Steve McDonald reveals that Street Cars is short-staffed. Carl soon lands a trial with the cab firm, potentially giving him the chance to establish himself properly in Weatherfield.
The development also gives Ronnie an opportunity to set some boundaries. With Carl finally earning his own money, Ronnie makes it clear that once he receives his first wage packet, he will need to find somewhere else to live.

It could mark an important turning point for Carl, who has repeatedly found himself at the centre of difficult situations since arriving on the Street. Getting a regular job would give him some much-needed independence, although whether he is ready to embrace that responsibility remains another question.
Carl's personal life is also continuing to cause awkward moments for those around him. Debbie later encounters his latest date, Kylie, but her dementia leads her to believe she is meeting pop superstar Kylie Minogue.

While the misunderstanding provides a lighter moment, Ronnie is becoming increasingly frustrated by Carl's behaviour and appears determined that he can no longer simply rely on everybody else to pick up the pieces.
Street Cars could therefore become more important to Carl than simply providing a wage. Working alongside familiar Weatherfield faces puts him firmly into another part of the community and could open up a completely different direction for the character.
For now, Carl has been given an opportunity and Ronnie has made his position clear. What happens once that first wage arrives could reveal whether Carl is finally ready to build a life of his own or whether another problem is waiting around the corner.
