Almost Out Loud brings Mara and Leah closer through an unexpected confession

Almost Out Loud Episode 3, ‘Page Twelve’, brings Mara and Leah's growing attraction into sharper focus as a poetry launch becomes an unexpectedly personal evening. The WLW series combines playful exchanges, a promise involving a kiss and a moving poem about feelings left unspoken for years.

Sleepless nights and an unexpected favour

The episode begins with teasing about thin walls and a sleepless night. One woman reveals that she heard the other pacing at three in the morning, even counting the fourteen steps she took before turning around. Neither seems particularly willing to admit what kept her awake.

At the bookshop, Rora announces that a family emergency means she cannot attend that evening's poetry launch. Mara is horrified at the prospect of addressing an audience, but Leah eventually agrees to help. Their conversation takes a flirtatious turn when a kiss becomes part of the proposed arrangement.

Page Twelve reveals a deeper meaning

As the evening approaches, Mara and Leah continue exchanging playful challenges, including a game of truth or dare. Yet beneath their teasing, both appear increasingly aware of how much the other's presence affects them.

During the launch, Leah introduces Jules Holloway's poetry collection and admits that she does not usually enjoy poetry. She explains that the book changed her opinion before choosing to read from page twelve.

The poem describes feelings kept unspoken for years, using the image of someone standing in a doorway, unable to say the words that matter. Its emotional themes echo the hesitation developing between Mara and Leah.

An emotional parallel and an unfinished kiss

Intercut with the launch is a hospital conversation involving someone brought in earlier and a partner describing a relationship lasting 23 years. The dialogue adds another perspective on enduring love, although the patient's circumstances remain unclear.

After the event, the earlier promise of a kiss returns. Leah makes clear that she does not want affection offered as payment for helping Mara, insisting that a kiss should happen only when it is genuinely wanted.

Mara's quiet final admission, “I did want to”, reveals that her hesitation was not a lack of desire. Their feelings are becoming harder to hide, even if neither has fully acted on them.
