AFTERBURNER opens with sharp banter and an unexpected invitation

AFTERBURNER introduces its characters in Episode 1, ‘The Things She Knows’, a 93-second opening to a new sapphic series from NeuralAfterglow. The brief instalment establishes playful exchanges between its characters, combining professional rivalry, teasing and an invitation to spend time together outside their usual routine.

A playful beginning establishes the tone

The episode opens with an amusing exchange about bribery, with someone insisting that it will not work before reluctantly admitting that it might help a little. The moment establishes the light-hearted tone that continues throughout the introduction.

Another conversation begins with an affectionate “Morning, Sunshine”, followed by a dry remark about conserving enough energy to survive the next ten hours together. Their familiar teasing suggests that these characters already know how to challenge and entertain one another.

A captain meets her match

A professional discussion introduces a captain and a colleague debating precision. One argues that a proposed approach reduces their margin of error by eleven seconds before asking whether the captain has a viable alternative.

The discussion quickly becomes personal when accusations of smugness enter the conversation. The character defending her calculations insists she is simply precise, responding to further teasing with a joke about her facial features.

Although the episode offers little explanation of their work, the exchange establishes two confident personalities who appear comfortable challenging each other.

A Friday night invitation changes the conversation

The final exchange introduces a more personal possibility when one character invites the other to O'Malley's pub on Friday night. The invitation is eventually accepted, much to the surprise of the person who suggested it.

The conversation closes with an acknowledgement that they already have something good between them. Whether that refers to friendship, professional chemistry or a relationship that could become romantic remains unclear.
