YAGA brings Carrie-Anne Moss and Hudson Williams together for dark new Sky mystery

A missing heir, a suspicious coastal town and an ancient supernatural legend collide in YAGA, a new mystery thriller coming to Sky and NOW this October.

The eight-part series brings together Carrie-Anne Moss, Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams, Schitt’s Creek favourite Noah Reid and Clark Backo for a contemporary reworking of the Baba Yaga myth. Each episode runs for around 30 minutes, creating a relatively compact mystery as the investigation begins to unravel increasingly strange secrets.

What is YAGA about?

Noah plays Rapp, a private investigator who arrives in a small coastal town following the disappearance of Henry Park, the young heir to a powerful local fishery. Hudson takes on the role of Henry, whose disappearance becomes the starting point for a much stranger investigation.

Rapp soon clashes with Carson, an apprehensive local detective played by Clark, while Carrie stars as Katherine, a charismatic university professor who had become entangled with the missing Henry. As more suspects emerge, the investigation begins uncovering secret lives and connections to ancient magic that leave Rapp questioning what is actually happening in the town.

The series reimagines Baba Yaga, the mysterious witch-like figure found throughout Slavic folklore. She is traditionally associated with the forest and a strange house standing on chicken legs, but YAGA brings elements of the legend into a modern murder-mystery setting rather than simply retelling the original folklore.

Hudson Williams takes on his next major role

The series gives Hudson one of his first major roles following the success of Heated Rivalry, with Sky itself highlighting the connection as it prepares the drama for UK audiences. His character sits directly at the centre of the mystery, even though Henry has disappeared when the investigation begins.

Carrie also serves as an executive producer alongside appearing as Katherine. The wider cast includes Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Katharine Isabelle, Hiro Kanagawa, Emilija Baranac, Georgia Acken, Anisa Harris, Ezra Franky and Patrick Gilmore.

YAGA was created and written by Kat Sandler and is based on her 2019 stage play. The television adaptation is produced by Blink49 Studios and Front Street Pictures in association with Canadian broadcaster Bell Media, with David Frazee and Rachel Talalay directing.

For viewers looking for something darker as autumn arrives, YAGA combines a missing-person investigation with folklore, sexuality, suspicion and supernatural elements rather than fitting neatly into a conventional crime drama.

YAGA will be available exclusively in the UK and Ireland on Sky and NOW this October. Sky has not yet confirmed the exact UK launch date on its current programme page.
