Will Young is returning to the songs that launched his career with The Evergreen 25th Anniversary Tour, celebrating a quarter of a century since his Pop Idol victory. The British singer will perform with his band at 16 UK venues in February and March 2027, with tickets going on sale this week.

Evergreen, Leave Right Now, Light My Fire and Jealousy are among the hits named for the shows. The anniversary brings his television breakthrough and subsequent recording career together, giving fans a celebration that reaches beyond the single that first took him to number one.

Presale opens at 10am on Wednesday 30 September, followed by general sale at 10am on Friday 2 October. Fans can register for presale access through his official website, although signing up does not guarantee a ticket.

How Will Young became famous

Will became a household name after winning the first series of Pop Idol in 2002. The televised singing competition allowed viewers to choose its winner, meaning his recording career began with an audience that had already watched and supported his performances.

His debut single paired Anything Is Possible with Evergreen as a double A-side, giving both songs equal billing on the release. It reached number one and became the UK’s bestselling single of the 2000s.

That success makes Evergreen a fitting title for the anniversary tour. It recalls the point when a television contestant became a recording star, while providing a familiar starting place for the music that followed.

The timing is important: the 25th anniversary falls in 2027. This autumn’s announcement and ticket sales come ahead of the milestone, with the performances scheduled for February and March.

The career behind the anniversary

Will followed his debut success with further number-one singles, including Light My Fire and Leave Right Now. Across his career, he has achieved four UK number-one singles and four number-one albums.

His album success also continued across different periods. From Now On topped the chart in 2002, followed by Friday’s Child in 2003, Echoes in 2011 and 85% Proof in 2015.

More recently, Light It Up reached number five in 2024. That later release is a reminder that his career has continued to develop, rather than existing solely through the songs associated with Pop Idol.

The announced tour highlights reflect that span. Evergreen and Light My Fire connect directly to his breakthrough year, while Leave Right Now and Jealousy bring subsequent releases into the celebration.

Those songs are confirmed highlights rather than a complete running order. The full setlist and arrangements will determine how the show moves between the different chapters of his career.

His story beyond the music

Will’s public life also includes writing about his experiences as a gay man. His book To Be a Gay Man, first published in 2020, explores gay shame, its effects on his life and his journey towards greater self-acceptance.

The book offers a personal account alongside the chart positions and television appearances that made him famous. It gives readers an opportunity to understand experiences that cannot be explained by a successful record alone.

That work provides an additional dimension to an anniversary celebrating his time in public life. The tour remains a music event, but the artist returning to those early songs has shared considerably more of himself since his breakthrough.

For fans wanting to join the celebration, the next step is this week’s ticket sale. Twenty-five years after Pop Idol introduced him to the country, Will will revisit Evergreen with a much larger catalogue behind him.
