Why Phil And Grant Suddenly Feel Like Classic EastEnders Again
Seeing Phil and Grant thrown back together in a crisis instantly gives this storyline a classic EastEnders feel.
The Mitchell brothers facing gangsters, threats and family drama is basically soap gold.
But what makes this different is how much older and more exhausted they both seem now. Years ago, Phil and Grant would probably have gone charging into a warehouse throwing punches without thinking twice.
Now there’s something sadder underneath it all.
They’re older men trying to stop the next generation making exactly the same mistakes they did.
And you can tell Phil especially knows how these situations spiral. One bad debt becomes another. One dodgy deal turns into violence. Suddenly people are being kidnapped.
The pressure is building fast too because this is all happening around Nigel’s funeral, which already has emotions running high across the Square.
EastEnders works best when family pressure and criminal pressure collide together, and this storyline feels like it’s doing exactly that.
