Why Océane Terrettaz includes love between women in her AI stories
Océane Terrettaz explains why relationships between women naturally appear in her AI stories and why she wants LGBTQ+ love to feel simple, tender and real.
For Océane Terrettaz, including relationships between women in her AI-created films is not about forcing representation into a story. It comes naturally from the emotions, experiences and relationships she understands personally.
That connection gives some of her work a distinctly female and LGBTQ+ perspective, particularly in stories centred on tenderness, vulnerability and emotional connection between women. Rather than treating those relationships as something unusual, Océane wants them to exist on screen with the same ease as any other love story.
“As a lesbian myself, stories about relationships between women naturally feel close to me.”
That personal connection helps explain why female relationships appear in some of her work. Océane is drawing from emotions she can relate to, which allows those stories to feel grounded in something real even when the visuals themselves are created using artificial intelligence.
“They are emotions and experiences that I can relate to, so I think it feels natural for me to include them in some of my stories.”
Her approach is also deliberately simple. She is interested in showing love between two women through the same emotional language used in any relationship: connection, tenderness, vulnerability, affection and the small moments that make a relationship feel believable.
“I also like showing love between two women simply as love with tenderness, connection, vulnerability and all the emotions that come with any relationship.”
That point is important because LGBTQ+ representation can sometimes be framed entirely around difference, conflict or identity. Océane’s work takes a softer approach, allowing two women to exist within a romantic story without that relationship needing to be treated as extraordinary.
Representation still matters to her, but she does not want it to overwhelm the story itself. The aim is for audiences to see the relationship first as an emotional connection between two people.
“I think representation matters, but I also want these stories to feel completely natural, because ultimately, love is love.”
That philosophy fits closely with the wider emotional direction of Océane’s work. Whether she is exploring loneliness, compassion, love or human connection, the focus remains on creating moments that audiences can understand and feel rather than explaining them too heavily.
As AI storytelling continues to develop, creators like Océane are also helping shape what kinds of relationships and experiences appear within that new space. For her, showing love between women is simply one part of telling stories that reflect the emotions and connections she already knows.
