Michael Gladwin is a South African travel entrepreneur working to make tourism more inclusive for LGBTQ+ travellers. As the founder of Afrigay Travel and All Stay, he combines organised travel experiences with education programmes designed to help hotels and tourism businesses welcome LGBTQ+ guests.
His work received international recognition in September 2026 when the IGLTA Foundation named Afrigay Travel the recipient of its 2026 Impact Award, celebrating responsible tourism and inclusion.
Who is Michael Gladwin?
Michael Gladwin is a Cape Town-based tourism professional with more than two decades of experience in hospitality, travel management and event organisation.
He founded Afrigay Travel to create travel experiences for LGBTQ+ visitors exploring Africa, including group journeys, private itineraries and special occasions.
His work also extends into professional education through All Stay, a platform helping tourism businesses understand the expectations and experiences of LGBTQ+ travellers.
What is Afrigay Travel?
Afrigay Travel specialises in organising journeys designed around the interests and needs of LGBTQ+ visitors.
The company offers tailored itineraries and group experiences while working with tourism partners who aim to provide welcoming environments.
Gladwin's approach connects travel planning with industry training, recognising that inclusive tourism depends on the experiences guests have throughout their journey.
What is All Stay?
All Stay provides LGBTQ+ awareness and hospitality training for tourism professionals, including hotel employees and destination operators.
According to the IGLTA Foundation, its training programmes have reached more than 8,000 workers across three continents.
The initiative aims to make inclusive hospitality part of everyday professional practice rather than something limited to promotional campaigns or Pride celebrations.
Why did Michael Gladwin receive an international award?
The IGLTA Foundation announced Afrigay Travel as its 2026 Impact Award recipient on 29 September, citing its contribution to responsible and inclusive tourism.
The award is scheduled to be presented during the IGLTA Global Convention in Seville on 19 November 2026.
Gladwin previously participated in the organisation's Fellowship programme in 2017, making the latest recognition another milestone in his work promoting LGBTQ+ travel.
