Wentworth: Halfway Home has confirmed another huge addition to its cast, with award winning Australian actress Rachel Griffiths joining the Wentworth universe as a dangerous new character who could cause serious problems for its returning favourites.

Griffiths will play Moira, a glamorous former beauty therapist whose apparently sophisticated exterior hides a much darker history. She joins a growing cast that already brings together some of the most recognisable characters from the original Wentworth alongside several newcomers.

Most importantly for longtime fans, Katrina Milosevic returns as Boomer Jenkins, Nicole da Silva is back as Franky Doyle and Kate Box reprises her role as Lou Kelly.

Before prison, she worked in beauty therapy before a second marriage propelled her into a very different world of wealth and high society. Her new lifestyle included penthouses and champagne, but everything unravelled following her husband’s death when the fortune surrounding them was exposed as a façade.

There is considerably more to Moira than appearances suggest. She is described as a blackmailer, loan shark and seductress, immediately establishing her as one of the most intriguing new additions to the Wentworth universe.

Griffiths herself has teased what viewers should expect from the character.

“Moira is a delicious character to bring to life and is going shake things up at the house.”

She also said becoming part of the Wentworth world was going to be “a lot of fun”.

Boomer, Franky and Lou are all returning

The new series moves the story beyond Wentworth Correctional Centre and into the lives of former prisoners attempting to survive outside.

Boomer is at the centre of that story. Freshly paroled, she arrives at Sal’s Halfway House determined to rebuild her life and regain custody of her daughter.

Her plans become considerably more complicated when a body is discovered, creating distrust among those living at the house.

Franky and Lou will also return, immediately giving Halfway Home strong links to the original series while allowing the story to explore what happens after prison.

Another new Wentworth character has been revealed

Sophie Lowe has also joined the cast as Sam, another resident attempting to navigate life on parole.

Sam is described as a people pleaser and former stalker whose obsession with a failed relationship resulted in a break in and assault. Although she has apparently found some stability at the halfway house, resentment from her past remains.

Alex King will play Dee, while Chenile Chandler joins as Lily. The combination of familiar faces and completely new characters gives Halfway Home the opportunity to expand the Wentworth world without simply recreating the original prison drama.
