Tom Hiddleston takes on Everest as Tenzing trailer reveals new Apple TV epic

Tom Hiddleston is heading to the world’s highest mountain in Tenzing, a new Apple TV film bringing the extraordinary story of Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary’s historic Mount Everest expedition to the screen.

A new trailer reveals Hiddleston as Hillary alongside Genden Phuntsok as Tenzing, recreating the dangerous journey that led to the pair becoming the first climbers confirmed to have reached Everest’s summit in 1953.

Rather than telling the familiar story solely through Hillary, Tenzing places Tenzing Norgay at its heart, exploring his life, determination and deep connection with the mountain.

Hiddleston plays the New Zealand mountaineer who joins Tenzing as part of the British expedition attempting to reach the summit. The pair eventually succeeded on 29 May 1953, creating one of the most famous moments in mountaineering history.

The film is directed by Jennifer Peedom, whose previous work includes the acclaimed documentary Sherpa. Genden Phuntsok takes the title role, while the production also benefited from first-hand insight connected to the original expedition.

Kanchha Sherpa, the last surviving member of the 1953 expedition before his death in 2025, shared his knowledge during development of the film.
