Olympic champion Tom Daley has unveiled a glamorous new look after making his drag debut with RuPaul’s Drag Race star Plastique Tiara, transforming into Lady Godiva for an episode of her YouTube series Plastique’s Beauty Bar.

The British diver swapped his familiar sporting appearance for a blonde wig, dramatic makeup and a mint-green knitted gown he made himself. Fans can watch the full transformation on Plastique Tiara’s YouTube channel, where Daley experiences the process from the initial preparations to the final reveal.

Tom Daley puts his knitting skills to the test

Daley’s handmade gown brought his well-known love of knitting into an entirely new setting, making the transformation particularly personal. Rather than simply wearing an outfit chosen for him, he incorporated his own creative work into his drag debut, combining a favourite hobby with an experience he had not tried before.

Working with Plastique, who rose to fame through RuPaul’s Drag Race, Daley underwent a dramatic makeover involving makeup, styling, padding and a long blonde wig. He admitted to feeling nervous about the finished result beforehand, joking that he did not want to look “busted”.

His reaction when he finally saw himself in the mirror provided one of the episode’s highlights, as he struggled to recognise his transformed appearance.

Daley introduced his new persona as Lady Godiva, sharing the playful line: “Welcome to the stage… Lady Godiva, she’s a really good diver.”

The name offered a tongue-in-cheek reference to the sporting career that made him a household name, while giving him the chance to embrace the theatrical side of drag.

Dustin Lance Black reacts to the transformation

One of the most entertaining moments came when Daley used FaceTime to reveal his new look to his husband, American screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

Black was delighted by the transformation and praised Daley’s appearance, responding with humour and affection as he saw his husband in full drag. The exchange offered a personal glimpse into their relationship and added another memorable moment to the makeover.

Daley has spent much of his life in the public eye, having first competed at the Olympics as a teenager. Alongside his achievements in diving, he has developed a public profile through knitting and his visibility as a gay sportsman.

His appearance on Plastique’s Beauty Bar brings those different interests together, allowing fans to see him explore a creative challenge far removed from the diving pool.
