This City Is Ours Returns as Shaun Evans Joins the BBC Crime Drama
Series two of This City Is Ours began on 25 October, with all eight episodes on BBC iPlayer and Shaun Evans joining the cast.
Liverpool crime drama This City Is Ours returned on Sunday 25 October 2026, with its entire eight-part second series released on BBC iPlayer. The show is also airing on BBC One at 9pm on Sunday and Monday evenings. Created by Stephen Butchard, the drama brings James Nelson-Joyce and Hannah Onslow back as Michael Kavanagh and Diana Williams, while introducing new characters played by Shaun Evans and Álvaro Morte.
The premiere follows the success of the first series, which launched in March 2025 and received BAFTA Television Award nominations. The BBC's production company Left Bank Pictures confirmed the release arrangements earlier this month, while Radio Times and TV Guide separately reported the schedule and incoming cast.
What happens after the first series?
The new series picks up after the events surrounding Ricardo's death. Michael and Diana have barely arrived in Spain when they become drawn back into questions about what happened, while tensions continue among the remaining members of the Liverpool criminal organisation. The new episodes continue the first season's interest in the competing pressures of family loyalty, romantic relationships and organised crime.
The opening episode aired on BBC One on Sunday 25 October at 9pm. Because all eight instalments have been made available on iPlayer together, viewers following the weekly broadcasts may encounter later plot details online before they reach television.
Who are the new cast members?
Endeavour actor Shaun Evans joins as Ozzie Thompson, a former gangster from Ronnie's era who has recently been released from prison. He arrives expecting compensation from the criminal organisation, bringing another source of pressure to a group already struggling with the fallout of previous events.
Álvaro Morte, known for Money Heist, plays Felipe Guzman, the younger brother of Ricardo. His arrival creates an obvious personal connection to the unresolved questions surrounding Ricardo's death, although viewers should not assume the outcome of his storyline from the promotional descriptions alone.
Returning performers include Jack McMullen, Mike Noble, Julie Graham, Laura Aikman, Kevin Harvey, Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Darci Shaw. The ensemble keeps the focus on the wider consequences of Michael's decisions, rather than turning the second series into a story about a single new arrival.
Has a third series been confirmed?
Yes. On 20 October 2026, the BBC confirmed that This City Is Ours would return for a third eight-part series, before the second had even begun. Filming is expected to take place primarily in Liverpool during 2027, with further casting details to be announced.
The renewal suggests confidence in the show's continuing appeal, but no firm third-series broadcast date has been announced. For now, the confirmed viewing options are the eight episodes of series two on BBC iPlayer and the Sunday-and-Monday BBC One broadcast schedule.
