The Wanted Man reveals Hugh Laurie’s prison escape drama
Hugh plays a betrayed crime boss plotting a prison escape in The Wanted Man, an eight-part Apple TV drama launching on 6 January 2027.
Hugh Laurie is plotting a prison escape in The Wanted Man, arriving on Apple TV on 6 January 2027. The eight-part crime drama comes from the creator of Hijack. The first images introduce his character Felix, an organised crime boss whose own firm has turned against him.
Betrayed by someone inside the organisation, Felix is sent to Staplehurst prison. He must draw on his own capacity for violence to survive, while his family, fortune and criminal business hang in the balance.
Felix heads The Capital, a British crime organisation he has controlled while remaining beyond the authorities’ reach for 20 years. His imprisonment creates an opening for the insider who betrayed him to start dismantling the business he built.
Getting out would give Felix a chance to pursue revenge, but it would also put him back on the run. His escape plan therefore carries a further danger even if he manages to leave Staplehurst.
Escape becomes his answer to losing control. The eight-part story follows that decision, with Hugh also serving as an executive producer.
The cast includes Thandiwe Newton, Fionn Whitehead, Gina McKee, Hazel Doupe, Elliott Heffernan and Stephen Dillane. Thandiwe and Gina also appear in the new images. George Kay created and wrote the series. New Pictures and Observatory Pictures are producing it for Apple TV.
The first two episodes will premiere on 6 January 2027. One episode will follow each Wednesday, concluding on 17 February.
