The Voice UK Series 14: Kelly Rowland Joins as Huge Rewind Button Is Revealed
The Voice UK returns for Series 14 with Kelly Rowland joining the coaches, a new Rewind Button and Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones defending their title.
Emma Willis is also back as host, while the new Rewind Button will give coaches another opportunity to secure an artist they initially chose not to turn for.
Emma Willis: “Kelly has joined us and she’s just incredible”
Emma believes Kelly has fitted naturally into The Voice UK and says the new coach brings both huge industry experience and genuine compassion for the contestants.
“Kelly has joined us and she’s just incredible. She’s everything you’d want from a coach.”
Emma says the talent once again covers a wide range of genres, including pop, country and opera. Despite hosting the programme for years, she admits performances can still give her goosebumps.
She is also a fan of the Rewind Button and understands why coaches may want another opportunity after making a difficult decision
“There are times when you finish a round and regret not spinning. This acts as a nice little safety net for them.”
Sir Tom Jones: “I want someone with individuality”
Sir Tom returns looking for artists who know exactly who they are rather than singers trying to imitate somebody else.
“I want someone with individuality who knows who they are as an artist and tells a story through their performance.”
He says the standard of talent continues to impress him and has welcomed Kelly’s arrival, praising the fresh energy she has brought to the panel.
Viewers could also see Sir Tom performing from his chair again if the right song takes him.
“If the music moves me, I can’t help it! I’ve been doing this a long time, but I still love singing and being on stage.”
will.i.am: “Kelly is a hero to singers and myself”
will.i.am has been with The Voice UK since the beginning and says returning now feels like being with family. He has also given Kelly a particularly warm welcome.
“Kelly is a hero to singers and myself. She’s the most down to earth superstar and the most humble diva I’ve ever met.”
There is no shortage of competition between the coaches, with will.i.am declaring himself the most driven to win. His message for aspiring performers is equally ambitious.
“Dream big and work harder. Be audacious, be ambitious and sing from your heart, perform from your soul, and have fun doing it.”
Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones: The champions return
Tom and Danny return after winning Series 13 with AVA, and the McFly bandmates hope trusting their instincts can lead them to another victory.
“We want to find someone who doesn’t just sing a song, but can tell a story and make the whole room stop and listen.”
Their years together mean they can often judge each other’s reactions almost instantly when deciding whether to turn. Both have also praised Kelly, with Tom describing her as an absolute pro and Danny saying her experience is a huge asset to the show.
The Rewind Button could prove particularly useful when those quick decisions do not quite go to plan.
“We’ve all had those moments where we’ve watched a performance back and thought, ‘What were we doing?!’”
Kelly Rowland: “I’m looking for an artist that makes you feel something”
Kelly arrives with previous experience of The Voice around the world but says the UK version has its own heartbeat. Her approach is focused on discovering the person behind the voice rather than simply finding technical perfection.
“I’m not necessarily looking for the perfect voice. I’m looking for an artist that makes you feel something.”
She names Whitney Houston, Sade and Stevie Wonder among the singers who have inspired her and says Team Kelly will bring together unique, dynamic and versatile voices.
Kelly has also enjoyed getting to know her fellow coaches, discussing everything from music and AI with will.i.am to parenthood with Tom and Danny. She says conversations with Sir Tom have given her wisdom she will always treasure.
The new Rewind Button has added another dimension to those difficult Blind Audition decisions too.
“That button is dangerous! Because as a coach, you’re constantly thinking about the artists you didn’t turn for.”
With Kelly joining the panel, Tom and Danny defending their title and the coaches receiving a second chance through the Rewind Button, Series 14 brings a fresh element to the familiar red-chair competition.
