The Inbetweeners 3 Is Official as Original Four Reunite After 12 Years
The Inbetweeners 3 is officially filming as Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas reunite for a new Netflix movie.
The Inbetweeners are officially back, with filming now underway on a third movie more than a decade after Will, Simon, Jay and Neil were last seen together. Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison are all returning for the new Netflix film.
The reunion marks the first time the four actors have returned to their famous characters since The Inbetweeners 2 arrived in cinemas in 2014. For fans who grew up watching the original Channel 4 series, the announcement finally confirms years of speculation about whether the group would ever reunite properly.
Original creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley are also returning and will write and direct the new movie. That gives the project a direct connection to the original television series and both previous films rather than handing the characters over to an entirely new creative team.
Netflix has already leaned heavily into the nostalgia surrounding the return. The announcement featured Simon’s instantly recognisable yellow Fiat Cinquecento, one of the most memorable pieces of The Inbetweeners history and a clear signal that the new movie intends to embrace what made the original series so popular.
The original sitcom followed four teenage friends attempting to navigate school, relationships, parties and adulthood with consistently disastrous results. It ran for three series between 2008 and 2010 before expanding into two hugely successful cinema films.
Exactly what brings Will, Simon, Jay and Neil back together this time is being kept under wraps. With the characters now considerably older, however, one of the biggest questions will be how their friendship and behaviour have changed after more than a decade apart.

That gap could become part of the appeal. The Inbetweeners was always built around painfully recognisable friendships and terrible decisions, so seeing the group dealing with adult life offers plenty of opportunities without simply recreating their teenage years.
There is currently no confirmed release date, although production is now underway in the UK. More casting details and the first proper look at the film are expected as Netflix moves further into production.
Where to watch: The Inbetweeners 3 will be released on Netflix. A release date has not yet been announced.
