Tempting Fortune series 3 puts £300,000 at risk with Rob Beckett

Tempting Fortune returns to Channel 4 with a new host, 12 strangers and £300,000 that could disappear one tempting purchase at a time. Rob will guide the contestants through the Malaysian jungle, where holding on to their potential winnings means resisting the comforts they are missing.

The third series takes place in Langkawi, Malaysia, over a demanding 13-day adventure. This time, the contestants start in two groups, adding another complication to a challenge that already depends on trusting other people with your money.

How does Tempting Fortune work?

The contestants begin with basic supplies and rations, while the possibility of sharing a £300,000 prize fund gives them a reason to keep going. Along their route, tempting alternatives to jungle life offer opportunities to eat better, relax or enjoy something special.

Every purchase comes with a catch because the money is deducted from the shared prize pot. Someone who resists everything can still see their potential winnings shrink when another contestant decides a treat is worth the expense.

That creates a dilemma well beyond choosing whether to buy something. A purchase that feels completely justified to one person could look wasteful to somebody saving their share for life back home.

Rob takes over as host

Rob joins the series to follow the group's progress, introduce temptations and guide viewers through the decisions along the way. With tired contestants weighing immediate relief against a bigger reward later, he will have plenty to keep an eye on.

He has already joked about enjoying a more comfortable stay than the people taking part. In Channel 4's announcement, Rob said: “I’m very happy to be hosting this show, especially from the comfort of a lovely crew hotel.”

Why are the contestants in two groups?

Channel 4 has confirmed that the fortune seekers will be divided from the outset. The arrangement puts trust under pressure immediately, with strangers relying on one another to protect money they all have a chance of taking home.

The broadcaster also promises further twists and difficult decisions as friendships develop. Resisting temptation yourself is only part of the challenge when somebody else's priorities could be very different from your own.

For viewers, that leaves plenty of room to disagree about what counts as an understandable purchase. A little comfort might feel essential after a difficult day, but the price becomes harder to defend when everybody has to contribute.

Who is taking part?

The new cast includes a former diplomat, a medical student, a teacher, a roofer and a performer who plays a princess at a London attraction. Some hope to put prize money towards their homes or families, while others want to rebuild their confidence or embrace an adventure.

Those ambitions give each decision a personal cost as well as a financial one. Whether the contestants can protect the fund will depend on how their determination holds up once those tempting offers appear.

Tempting Fortune series 3 launches on Channel 4 on Tuesday 22 September at 9.30pm and will also be available to stream on Channel 4. Follow SoapLandTV for more coverage of the new series.
