Tempting Fortune series 3 cast revealed as 12 strangers risk £300,000

Tempting Fortune has revealed the 12 contestants heading into the Malaysian jungle, and they already have very different ideas about what makes something worth paying for. A new dad, an earl's daughter and a former diplomat are among those hoping to return with a share of £300,000.

Channel 4's new series follows a 13-day trek through Langkawi, with Rob hosting and the contestants split into two groups from the start. They will face tempting purchases along the way, but every pound spent comes out of the prize fund they share.

Channel 4's cast announcement introduces people saving for their families, looking for a fresh start and testing how far they can push themselves. Here is who is taking part and what could persuade them to spend.

Charlotte, 33, London

Charlotte works as a performer at a London tourist attraction, where she plays a princess. She still lives with her family and hopes the adventure will help her become more independent.

A comfortable upbringing has not stopped her wanting to test herself in tougher surroundings. However, the chance to enjoy a party, unwind or make a special memory could make protecting the prize fund less straightforward.

Cressida, 56, Surrey

PR director Cressida is the daughter of the late Earl of Dudley and sister of the current Earl. She says menopause brought new fears of heat and heights, which she wants to confront by taking on the jungle.

Her career has included pharmaceutical communications and work with children with special educational needs and disabilities, and she is now training as an addictions coach. Having raised two children on her own, she understands financial responsibility, although ice cream, a party or a silent disco could test her resolve.

Jack, 22, Nottingham

Medical student Jack is taking a year away from university to explore interests including modelling and travel. A heart condition three years ago disrupted his everyday life and gave him a fresh determination to embrace adventure.

The trek offers a chance to test his stamina and judgement, but his enjoyment of grooming and spa treatments could prove expensive. Food and memorable experiences are also among the offers that might persuade him to spend.

Jennie, 47, the Peak District

Marketing consultant Jennie is a mother of two who enjoys drawing, painting and family film nights. She brings creativity to her work and likes finding ways to enjoy life.

Although she can stay committed to longer-term goals, passing up an immediate pleasure is more difficult. A perfectly made spicy margarita is one temptation that could put her willpower under serious pressure.

Kieran, 29, Lancashire

Roofer Kieran became a dad just weeks before taking part, giving him a powerful reason to think carefully about money. He recognises that he can overspend and wants to put his discipline to the test.

Family could also be the reason he reaches for the prize pot, because a call home to his fiancée would be difficult to refuse. Fast food and the chance to freshen up are other possible weaknesses for someone who often buys before thinking.

Lucy, 39, West Wales

Support worker Lucy has recently moved into her first home with her wife, and the couple hope their family will grow there. With her daughter now 17, Lucy wants a new challenge that could help rebuild her confidence.

The former rugby player brings a competitive streak and is usually careful with money. Going without showers concerns her, while a sleep mask or an orthopaedic pillow could make familiar comforts difficult to turn down.

Nico, 38, Ipswich

Environmental officer Nico hopes to buy a home and start a family with his partner of five years. He tends to put other people first, giving him a strong reason to protect a fund that could help their future.

Nico is generally cautious about spending but generous when somebody else needs support. Sweet treats, a haircut or a beard trim could nevertheless tempt him to buy something for himself.

Sam, 47, London

Former diplomat Sam has travelled extensively and is now working through his bucket list following a serious health scare. The experience changed how he thinks about money, pleasure and making the most of life.

He enjoys good living while usually staying within his means. Wine and cheese, jet skiing or even a chip butty could challenge that restraint once he is deep into the trek.

Sarah, 56, Greater Manchester

Dog groomer Sarah spent five years caring for her mum before her death. She now feels ready to embrace an adventure and consider opportunities she might previously have passed up.

Sarah grew up learning to be careful with money and still enjoys finding a bargain. A massage, a passion fruit martini or some air conditioning could be harder to resist, particularly when everyday comforts are out of reach.

Shaf, 28, West Yorkshire

Train conductor Shaf dreams of acting but wants to build his confidence before pursuing the spotlight. Joining the show is a chance to push himself into unfamiliar territory.

His careful saving helped him buy his first home in his twenties, and he hopes prize money could pay for furniture. Burgers, tea and fizzy drinks are among the everyday favourites that could interfere with those plans.

Tierney, 25, Newcastle

Retail assistant Tierney wants to help her mum and nan, with family caring responsibilities having shaped her outlook. She is prepared to tackle the adventure despite a fear of insects.

Her independence and determination could serve her well, although she also admits to impulsive spending. A cheese, bean and sausage melt, a vanilla latte or access to her phone could all put that family goal into competition with an immediate treat.

Yvonne, 43, Coventry

Teacher and parent of two Yvonne moved to the UK 20 years ago and wants her children to understand resilience. She finds working with children easier than dealing with adults, making the social side of the trek a challenge in its own right.

Yvonne usually treats herself selectively and has little interest in designer goods. She feels confident about resisting temptation, although good food and a comfortable bed could give her something to think about.
