Phantom of the Opera 40th anniversary brings former stars back for huge West End celebration
The Phantom of the Opera is celebrating its 40th anniversary in London’s West End with a special performance and returning former stars.
The Phantom of the Opera is preparing for a huge 40th anniversary celebration, with stars from across its extraordinary West End history returning for a very special night.
The iconic musical reaches four decades in London on Friday 9 October 2026, exactly 40 years after it first opened at His Majesty’s Theatre in 1986.
A special anniversary performance will take place at the same theatre, bringing together the current company and performers who have appeared in the production across its remarkable history.
And organisers are keeping some of the biggest details under wraps.
Former Phantom stars are coming back
Performers from across the musical’s four decades will return to the stage alongside the current company for a special curtain call following the anniversary performance.
Exactly who will appear hasn’t yet been revealed, giving fans another reason to watch for announcements as the big night approaches.
The current anniversary cast already has some significant Phantom connections.
Broadway star Jordan Donica plays the Phantom, with Beatrice Penny-Touré as Christine and Rhys Whitfield as Raoul.
Sierra Boggess has also returned to the world of Phantom, this time playing Carlotta. Boggess previously starred as Christine in Love Never Dies and famously played the role opposite Ramin Karimloo in The Phantom of the Opera’s spectacular 25th anniversary production at the Royal Albert Hall.
40 years of The Phantom of the Opera
The milestone is extraordinary even by West End standards. Since opening in London in 1986, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, reaching more than 160 million people through productions staged across dozens of countries and in more than 20 languages.
Now its past and present are being brought together to celebrate 40 uninterrupted years at the heart of London’s theatre scene.
Can fans attend the 40th anniversary?
Yes. A limited allocation of tickets for the 9 October anniversary performance is being released, with fans able to register through Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Box Five Club for booking information.
The celebration will also raise money for charity. Proceeds from gala ticket sales will be matched by both the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and the Mackintosh Foundation.
