OutYouth Rebuilds Historic Blue Bungalow for LGBTQ+ Young People in Texas

OutYouth has broken ground on a new Blue Bungalow in Austin, Texas, rebuilding its historic LGBTQ+ youth centre after severe water damage left the original building uninhabitable in August 2024.

The groundbreaking took place on 6 October 2026, marking the next stage of a project designed to provide more space for counselling, youth programmes and community activities.

The original Blue Bungalow has served LGBTQ+ young people in Central Texas since 1998, offering a welcoming place to meet others, access support and connect with people who understand their experiences.

The replacement building will expand from approximately 1,700 to 4,500 square feet. Planned facilities include seven therapy offices, a dedicated drop-in centre, a library and a media arts lab, alongside accessibility improvements.

OutYouth’s Dream Campaign aims to raise $3.52 million to fund the redevelopment and expand its wider services. More than $2.2 million has been raised, leaving approximately $1.3 million to go.

By 2030, the organisation hopes to increase its clinical team from six to 18 and its programmes team from three to 12, helping more young people access support.

The rebuilt Blue Bungalow is scheduled to open in autumn 2027.

More information about the project and how to support the fundraising effort is available through OutYouth’s official Dream Campaign website.
