Ollie and Gareth Locke-Locke explore parenthood in new CBeebies documentary
Ollie and Gareth Locke-Locke explore parenthood and relationships in CBeebies’ Parenting Unscripted, launching weekly from 9 October.
Ollie Locke-Locke and his husband Gareth will explore how becoming parents changes a relationship in a new CBeebies Parenting documentary. Their film forms part of Parenting Unscripted, a series of five documentaries launching on YouTube and BBC iPlayer from Friday 9 October.
The couple’s contribution focuses on the impact of parenthood on relationships and communication within a family. It brings two fathers’ experiences into a wider series examining the questions and pressures parents face while raising children.
For LGBTQ+ viewers, their inclusion puts a same-sex couple within a mainstream conversation about family life. The subject is one that reaches across different households: how people adjust as partners when they also become parents, and how they communicate through that change.
Parenting Unscripted will release a new documentary each week, with Dani Dyer, Charlie Hedges, Leanne Quigley and rapper Krept also taking part. Each film explores a different aspect of parenting through its contributor’s experiences.
Charlie opens the series with a documentary about parenting confidence and the pressure to get everything right. Her film also includes a CBeebies Bedtime Story read alongside her daughter, bringing their relationship into a format usually led by a single reader.
Leanne’s documentary looks at giving children independence while dealing with concerns about risk. Krept explores co-parenting, where parents share responsibility for raising a child, alongside the demands of his music and business career.
Dani will examine different approaches to gentle parenting. This approach generally emphasises understanding children’s feelings and responding calmly while maintaining boundaries.
Together, the films cover relationships, confidence, independence and the practical demands of bringing up children. Ollie and Gareth’s documentary places family communication within that mix, giving viewers a parenting perspective shared by two dads.
The series begins on the dedicated CBeebies Parenting YouTube channel on 9 October, with the documentaries also available on BBC iPlayer. That is the launch date for the wider series, rather than a confirmed release date for Ollie and Gareth’s individual film.
