Noel Gallagher on Chicken Shop Date: the 'compromise' behind working with Liam again
Noel Gallagher tells Amelia Dimoldenberg on Chicken Shop Date that working with a sibling means being prepared to compromise, something he admits he is not ordinarily good at.
Noel Gallagher has offered a rare glimpse into how the Oasis reunion works away from the stage, telling Amelia Dimoldenberg on Chicken Shop Date that working with a brother comes down to one thing he admits he has never found easy.
The 59-year-old is among the guests on the final series of Dimoldenberg's long-running interview show, and his episode was released on Friday 23 October on YouTube and Netflix.
When she asked whether he had any advice for working with a sibling, the question carried an obvious subtext, given that Noel is now back in a band with his younger brother Liam.
After a pause, he replied: "I think you've got to be prepared just to compromise." In the same breath he conceded that compromise is not something he is ordinarily good at, before adding a more hopeful thought: "I think it gets better as you get older."
It is a brief exchange, yet it carries weight coming from Noel, who has rarely spoken in public about how the reconciliation actually works. Oasis split in 2009 after years of well-documented friction between the brothers, and for well over a decade a reunion was widely thought to be out of the question.
That changed in August 2024, when the band announced their return, and the Oasis Live '25 tour that followed proved such a success that a further run of dates has since been announced under the Oasis Live '27 banner.
The appearance is also one of the last chances to see a guest put through the Chicken Shop Date format. Dimoldenberg announced in September that the series, which she started more than a decade ago and which has built an audience of more than three million YouTube subscribers, would be coming to an end.
Previous guests have included Paul McCartney, Billie Eilish and Louis Theroux, and Noel's own encounters with McCartney come up during his conversation too.
The brothers have rarely discussed the reunion side by side, which made their first joint Oasis interview in more than 20 years such a talking point.
You can read more about that in our earlier piece on Liam and Noel's sit-down together.
With Oasis Live '27 to come, Noel's remarks offer a rare, candid sense of what keeping the partnership going asks of him, and a reminder that the man who wrote so many of the band's songs is still learning to give a little ground.
