New LGBTQ+ Study Wants to Know What Growing Older Is Really Like
A new UK LGBTQ+ ageing study is asking people across generations to share their experiences of work, health, housing, relationships and community.
A major new research project is asking LGBTQ+ people to help build a clearer picture of what growing older really looks like across the community.
The Missing Picture: Shaping a Better Future for LGBTQ+ People in Later Life has been launched jointly by Older Queer Voices and LGBT Great.
Anyone who is LGBTQ+ and aged 18 or over can take part, although the experiences of people in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond sit at the heart of the research. Younger participants are also being encouraged to respond so researchers can compare experiences across different generations.
The survey looks at areas including work, financial security, health and care, housing, relationships, community and belonging. Organisers say the aim is to understand what has changed, where challenges remain and how people feel about their futures.
Taking part should take around 10 to 15 minutes. Stonewall, LGBT Foundation, Pride in London, UK Black Pride, Consortium and Tonic Housing are among the organisations supporting the research and helping it reach more people.

Readers aged 18 and over can take part through the survey shared by Stonewall. The more generations represented, the more useful the eventual picture of LGBTQ+ ageing could become.
