Netty Neal reveals the real voice behind Faceless Design Collective

Faceless Design Collective openly embraces AI-assisted technology, but creator Netty Neal says there is one assumption about the project she is particularly keen to clear up: the voice behind the music really is hers.

As FDC has grown, Netty has started sharing more of the creative process with listeners, including live and stripped-back singing that reveals another side of a project originally built around anonymity.

Speaking exclusively to SoapLandTV, Netty explained:

“And yes, it really is me singing! I’ve actually started sharing more live and stripped-back singing content because there is still an understandable assumption that music created alongside AI technology somehow can’t be authentic.”

The vocals are part of a process that usually begins well before any AI-assisted production takes place. Netty often starts with lyrics, a poem, a voice note, a melody or simply an emotion she is trying to work through, before developing the vocals, hooks and overall sound around that original idea.

Technology then gives her additional ways to experiment with and develop what she has created. Her production toolkit includes Avid Pro Tools, Noiseworks and Suno, bringing established music-production techniques together with newer AI-assisted tools for areas including arrangement, refinement and mastering.

For Netty, however, embracing those tools does not mean surrendering the human element behind the music. Instead, it gives her another way to develop ideas that originate in her own experiences, voice and creative decisions.

That has led her to one of the questions she finds most interesting about the current moment in music: “If the emotion began with a human, does using technology to amplify it make that emotion any less real?”

Her answer is straightforward: “I don’t think it does.”

It is a positive philosophy that runs throughout Faceless Design Collective. Netty is interested in what AI can add to creativity while remaining open about how she uses it, rather than pretending the technology is absent or allowing it to overshadow the human work that comes first.

Sharing more live vocals is another step in that direction. FDC began with Netty deliberately remaining behind the curtain, but listeners have increasingly encouraged her to become more visible, giving audiences an opportunity to discover both the finished electronic productions and the original voice behind them.

The contrast is also part of what makes FDC distinctive. A stripped-back vocal can begin in an intimate, analogue way before becoming something much larger through production, allowing traditional performance and emerging technology to become parts of the same creative process.

As Netty continues stepping forward, that real voice is becoming an increasingly visible part of the Faceless Design Collective story.
