Nathan Fielder reveals Elizabeth Holmes called him from prison just before You Can See Everything opened
Nathan Fielder says Elizabeth Holmes rang him from prison after more than six months without contact, shortly before his documentary about her opened, and ended the call by telling him she trusted him.
Nathan Fielder has revealed that Elizabeth Holmes phoned him from prison shortly before You Can See Everything, his documentary about her, opened in American cinemas, and that she ended the call by telling him she trusted him.
Speaking to WIRED, the comedian and filmmaker said the call came out of the blue last week. "She had not called me in over six months," he said, explaining that he had not heard from the Theranos founder in any way during that time.

By Fielder's account, the conversation itself was a gentle one. Holmes asked how he was doing, and when he asked whether she had seen anything about the film and how she felt about it, she told him she had heard about it but had not really read the coverage.
She also spoke about her children and passed on some personal updates, which Fielder said were not his to share.

It is the end of the call that has stayed with him. "And then, at the end, she said to me, 'I trust you,'" he recalled. Holmes said it more than once before ringing off, and Fielder admitted he did not know what she meant by it, adding that he tries not to read too much into any single moment even though his mind cannot help trying to work it out.
The timing gives the story an extra twist.
You Can See Everything, which Fielder co-directed with Lance Oppenheim, follows Holmes in her final days before she went to prison for fraud, and the call came just as audiences were about to see the film for the first time. Fielder is best known in Britain for Nathan for You and The Rehearsal, and his account of the call is bound to add to the curiosity around the film.
British viewers have not had the chance to see it yet. A24 is releasing the documentary itself in the UK and Ireland, and SoaplandTV has already set out the details in our guide to the film's November cinema release.
With Fielder still unsure what Holmes meant, audiences here will soon be able to watch the film and draw their own conclusions about the relationship behind it. You Can See Everything opens in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 20 November.
